Types of Braces

Metal Braces

Metal braces are the most common type. They are made of high-grade stainless steel. Today's metal braces are smaller, more comfortable and more attractive.

Clear Braces

Ceramic braces are made of translucent (clear) material. They are most popular with adult patients, due to their cosmetic appeal. The only drawback to ceramic brackets is that they are more fragile, and the elastic ties can discolor between orthodontic visits.

Lingual Braces

Having braces doesn’t mean you have to have a “tin grin.” Our office also uses lingual braces, which attach to the lingual side (tongue side) of your teeth. Lingual braces are custom-fit for your teeth and treatment plan. While the fronts of your teeth are fairly consistent, the back side of each tooth has its own distinctive shape. Thus, each bracket must be manufactured for each individual patient. You can receive the dramatic results of orthodontic treatment without anyone knowing, as the braces are virtually invisible. Ask us if lingual braces are right for you.

SureSmile

We are proud to utilize the SureSmile® technology in our office. This state-of-the-art technology yields enhanced patient comfort, fewer trips to the office and shorter treatment times. Through 3-D imaging and customizing each patient’s archwires, the SureSmile system gives the doctor more control to precisely configure your treatment plan. The Shape Memory alloy wires used in the SureSmile design are more effective than the traditional archwires used in conventional braces, allowing for shorter treatment and less discomfort.

Invisalign®

The Invisalign® System is a series of clear overlay templates—called aligners—that have been generated by computer simulation to gradually move the teeth. This system is available to adult patients with certain orthodontic bite problems. Ask us if you are a candidate for the Invisalign® system.

In-Ovation R

In-Ovation “R” is a self-ligating bracket, which allows more control during treatment than more traditional brackets. The difference is that they are smaller in size but also stronger and more efficient because they have a built-in clip that holds the archwires in place without the need for wire or elastic ties. This allows for greater overall attractiveness and a more reliable product.

The clip is also more comfortable than the standard wires because it does not gouge or stick to a patient’s cheek or gum line. Many patients report faster, more efficient results, which means less fuss and fewer treatment visits for you.
